The Earth is always in a state of change. From observations of nature many questions could arise about why the environment has changed. Questions such as "why is the beach small this year then last?, why does it rain?, and where does our water come from?" With this unit I hope to answer some of these questions and build on the prior knowledge students have about their environment around them.
The unit I will be covering is titled Sculpting the Earth's Surface because it takes into account the cycles and forces of nature that change the surface of the Earth and therefore our environments that surround us. I will start out with a lesson about minerals to identify what rocks are made of and will make connections to the rock and water cycles. The rock and water cycles are foundation for discussing topics about erosion and mechanical and chemical weathering. The topic of erosion, deposition and weathering will be covered further in the lessons that deal with the force of water, wind and glaciers. I continually will make connections to the students environment in order to create a more important and relevant image of the information being discussed. There will be different forms of assessment throughout the unit, some examples are projects, labs, and guided organizers. The students will be given an exam at the end of the unit which covers all of the information examined.
